Happy Mother’s Day

Well hey there everyone, it has been a long time since I have posted. A bunch of life stuff going on and just wasn’t feeling right to blog I guess. Also my laptop hard drive took a dirt nap and it took me a while to get it replaced. Well I am back and figured Mother’s Day was a good day to get back into it.

My son’s gave me some nice bubble bath from Bath and Body Works and chocolate from Laura Secord. Since my birthday was on Friday I get more of a present then.

I was on my own after the gifts this morning. My younger son had to go to North York for a baseball game so I stayed home and went for a run. Got in 10k which is the longest run I’ve had for a while. Not a bad pace I averaged 7:51 per kilometre which again is better than I’ve been running lately. With race season and half marathon training approaching I had better get my mileage up a bit.
Did some nice yoga stretches when I got home and made a nice berry smoothie. Now just relaxing and once my boys return from ball I will head to the mall to treat myself to a Maxi skirt.
Later heading to my inlaws for a birthday / mother’s day dinner. Have a great day to all the Mom’s out there and I will promise to blog again soon.

:)

Uh oh!!

I kind of keep forgetting about you………haven’t written for a bit. Yesterday I re-blogged a post from Stacy at Will Run for Glitter. I was about the 10 Reasons to run Tuesday but certainly could be used for any day of the week. I definitely recommend Stacy’s blog, she always has great posts about nutrition and running. Yesterday was a good day for the post. I had to miss run group due to dropping my son off at basketball so I headed to the gym. I am not fond of the treadmill and have never run more than 20 minutes due to absolute boredom…..
Surprisingly I made it a whole hour!! Stopped every 15minutes for water but it wasn’t terrible. I found the time passed faster if I just looked at the TV and focused on that and my music on my ipod. Feeling pretty good , usual Achilles tender spot on my heel but no other real running pain…yippee.

Sometimes, you wake up and want to press snooze forever -- something that's been occurring over and over (and over!) this winter. On such mornings, it's important to remind ourselves why we run. Remember: It's a choice. Do it, or don't do it. But at least, if you're contemplating the latter, glance over these reasons that inspire the former.

1. Look on the bright side.

Wellness……

Wellness…….what does that mean to you?? Last night a girlfriend and I went to the Total Wellness Event sponsored by Foster Family Chiropractic, which happens to be my chiropractic office. We watched a documentary called “Doctored” that looked at the view of the medical profession of alternative medicine. It was eye opening, informative and certainly thought provoking. There were speakers as well talking about mental and physical well being and in general how to be a better you!! I left very uplifted and feeling that I certainly can continue pursuing ways to holistically improve my life and my family’s.

Today was my first long run of my half marathon training, a 10k. I headed out after lunch. Sun was shining, temperature was about -5 degrees Celsius. My Nike+ band had me completing 10k in 1:06 with a 6:36per kilometer pace. I don’t really think that was my real pace. I did feel quite strong but not sub 7min per kilometer strong ( I don’t think anyway) I think it might be time to recalibrate my band. First week of 12 down . I did manage 4 runs. Mostly short but all felt great……

Are you kidding??

…ok , so that was my reaction to an email that said running group was still a go for tonight. The temperature is -15 degrees Celsius and -25 with the wind chill…..for those in the U.S that is freaking cold!!! I went out at lunch time and thought oh it’s not that bad….then a wind gust came up and it was then I decided that no way would I be running outside tonight. Sucks since it is the first night of the new Half Marathon training group at my Running Free store. I know that with the right amount of layers and coverage I might be able to make a go of it but I know my lungs would not be happy with the cold.
How cold is too cold to run??

So plan b, I went to the gym instead and did a half hour on the treadmill. I did between 4.5 and 5.5 miles per hour pace. Did some stretching before and after including my 1:15 plank for #plankaday

I’ve been doing ok with the fitness thing. I only missed a few days due to my cold last week which is great since this week starts my 12week half marathon training for the half I am running in April.
The weight loss thing hasn’t been going that great but I suppose at this point unless all sugary snacks and junk food is being cut out I won’t lose that much as I must be gaining some muscle with the strength work I’ve been doing. Slow and steady…….
Day off from work tomorrow, workout at the gym planned including weights and treadmill again . I may run outside in the morning if the wind chill isn’t too bad.

Starting slow….

I am back from my cold….yippee!!! I went to Bodyflow yoga class at the my GoodLife gym this morning. I just came back from a 5k run at the indoor track. Wasn’t a great run, I did 1k intervals but at least I am back!! I have to remember to start slow and not put too many miles on too quickly like I did last year when I went whole hog running then got I.T band pain. My running group starts up in a week so I have to be ready for them too. I am really looking forward to it! Now time for a hot bath……

Yuck!!

arrrgh!!, I got a cold this week and being a chest type cold , I haven’t done any exercise or other activity since Tuesday. I know rest is good and hopefully by tomorrow or Sunday I will be up to at least some weights and stretching at the gym……

Oh Crap,I forgot about you guys……

Hey there…..January the 9th…….how many of you have given up on your resolutions??? I haven’t been too bad….I didn’t really make any specific ones. Ideally I want to lose 10 pounds, which hopefully will help my running speed and endurance and I am also trying to inject more holistic, natural type foods and other healthy practices into my life. I have a manage a few runs, and made it to the gym last night for some weigh work. I’ve also been hit with a bit of a sinus cold. I’ve had a scratch throat for a few days but yesterday I could fee the sinuses getting a bit full and sore. Then last night and today it has hit full on . I feel puffy and sluggish. I left work and hour early and picked up some broth based soups for dinner. I will try to avoid any over the counter pain relief and keep trying the variety of teas I picked up from our local Nature’s Emporium health store the other day.
As far as the weight loss goes I have only lost about a pound and a half all due to my incredible weakness for sweets. I need to find snacks I can always have around that will cure my cravings. I need to be better at planning my meals too. I am doing Weight Watchers again and find it to be great for allowing and encouraging very balanced eating.

I also want to try blogging more often and I haven’t been great keeping up with that one either…hehehe. My laptop died so I have to try to get time on the family computer…….tough with 2 teenage boys in the house.

My other fitness fun add on has been planking. On Twitter I “joined” the #plankaday and the #planksalot groups which have me trying to get a plank in every day and hopefully improving as I go. I’ve done pretty well keeping up and right now average around a minute. My abs with thank me later I hope!!

If you have tailed off from your resolutions, just pause, step back and maybe go at things at a different angle. We tend to make these dramatic life altering resolutions usually without much planning and thought, then wonder why we tend to fail. There will always be bad days , but probably there will always be good days too…..I hope you can stick with whatever you planned.

Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year everyone, this is also my 1 year anniversary of my blog. I just wanted to send a quick message wishing all happiness and wellness in the new year. I will be sure to try posting more often and always look forward to hearing from all of you…….today begins a new 365 days of fitness….what am I going to do today????

365 Days of fitness

A year ago this is where it all started. I wanted to blog mostly about my crafting (which will come in the new year) but I ended up mostly blogging about my fitness events. My massage therapist friend Scott got me inspired to try 365 days of fitness and now that the year is closing I thought I would reflect back on how I did. The idea was that every day to do some kind of physical activity. In the begining I was pretty consistent, always trying to do some kind of workout every day whether it was running, cardio, yoga, Wii fit…just something to keep me going. Around March I started getting some running related pain and had to slow down a bit but once I got the pain looked at and worked on by my massage therapist and Chiropractor, I was back on track.
Not to bore you with play by play in the end I think I did pretty good. As pure improvement over previous years , I am proud of what I accomplished this year. I took some kickboxing classes (they rocked) with an amazing trainer named Nichelle Laus @Nichellelaus. I joined a running group at Running Free @Running_free. I did an awesome 8 week bootcamp with Jenny B’s bootcamp (she rocked) @JennyBBootcamp ,and joined a gym.

My big accomplishment was my running. In January I could kind of comfortably run 5k. Then my friend Becky thought it would be fun to sign up for a half marathon. Knowing that we thought it would be a good idea to do other races leading up to it as well to keep us going. I did 2 5ks and 2 10ks then ran the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon Half in October to wrap up my running season. Now I may not have done the whole 365Days of Fitness but I think I did pretty good. I work in retail and easily walk 10000 steps a day in my job. I also managed to lose some weight and hope that I can kill the last 10 pounds in the coming months.
……..so what’s next………..
My goals are to continue with improving my fitness , both on a strength and endurance level. I am running 2 half marathons this year and I want to improve on my result. I want to get to the gym days a week and do some home workouts on the other days mixed in with my running.
My other goals are to progress with my home craft business and get it rolling and get learning more about web development and WordPress.
Looking forward to it………………what are your goals/plans for the year??
