Today was my first race of the season. Did the Uxbridge Run for the Diamond 5k. With my recent I.T issues I wasn’t expecting much. Ran with my friend and she hadn’t been outside running yet this year. As we left the golf course we immediately hit a dirt trail though some pretty hilly terrain. It was crazy. I went out a bit fast ( kind of glad I did) as I hit something on the ground just before the 1st k and fell to the ground!! Got up pretty quick and luckily no damage done. The first 2k were real up, down and twisting trails and my breathing sucked and just wanted to get through it. Then we got off the trail onto the cart path of the golf course to the finish. I came in just over 36 minutes. My friend wasn’t too far behind me. We both had fun and will definitely do this one again. They had a great buffet lunch after. Headed home for a nice hot bath and a relaxing afternoon. Only bad thing is my knee is really killing. I wore a band around my leg recommended to help with I.T band pain. I didn’t notice much difference but I wonder if that was because of the uneven terrain and all the hills. Hate the thought of having to cut back my running …..but………..

1 week to go!
Got up at my usual 6:30 time and got my gear on and headed right out for a run. Came back in time to shower, get dressed and head to work. A bit of a whirlwind but glad I got out this morning. I ran 8.12; in 1:02 Last week I used my Endomondo BB app to calibrate my Nike+ as I felt it was a bit off, showing I was running farther than I was actually running. But after this morning I felt like I ran farther but my Nike+ band had me much shorter. Who knows maybe I was just slower today. My I.T band on my right knee flared up again today and bugged me at work too….that sucks!! I will just deal with it and suck it up.
Think I will head to the track this week to try calibrating my Nike+ band again. I know they aren’t meant to be 100% but I’d like to have a good idea of what my pace and distance actually is.
Oh yeah ….. 1 week to go till my first race of the season. Running the Run for the Diamond at Wooden Sticks Golf Course next Sunday with my friend. Only doing 5k but will be good to get into really pushing myself and seeing how fast I can really go. Secretly hoping I can either keep right on pace with or even come ahead of my friend. She’s 10 years younger and usually quite consistent running( a good 4-5 minutes ahead of me) But this year she hasn’t been training as solidly and admits the first race will be rough for her. I know she will still be ahead of me at the finish but I feel like I will be a lot closer to her this year.
So what races is everybody else running coming up???
And so it starts again
Yesterday I started our “Biggest Loser” weight loss challenge at work. There is about 30 of us trying to trim down over the next 12 weeks. I know fitness is a big part of me losing my extra 10 pounds so I decided I would get back to the Insanity Workout. I did the Fit test which is 40 minutes of intense moves and you do as many of each in a minute and record the results. Then in 2 weeks after doing the different Insanity workouts you do the Fit Test again and see how you’ve improved. Other that running I hadn’t been doing much cross training so tonight was a bit rough but not as much as I had thought. Anyone looking to sweat , burn and enjoy it should do this workout. Shaun T is the instructor and he makes it a lot of fun and no matter your level of fitness you don’t feel intimidated….plus he’s easy on the eyes too!!
First time!!
Happy Easter everyone. This morning after taking care of Easter Bunny duties I had a half cup of coffee and headed out for my run. This was the first time I did 10k 2 days in a row. I felt pretty damn good. My knee and the I.T band soreness crept in around the 5 k mark today but knew I had to make it home. Made sure I got ice on it when I got home and have been chilling most of the rest of the day.
We are starting a “Biggest Loser” challenge at work tomorrow running for 12weeks. I would like to lose 10-15 pounds and will have to bust my ass and cut out some really sweet treats in order to do it but cutting down my run time and looking sexy in my summer gear is driving me. Will keep you all updated on my progress……
bunnies are coming!!
I wanted a cute blog entry title tonight. No real reason other than the Easter bunny is coming. I ran. 10k this afternoon I my usual 1:11 time. Felt good. I had wanted to push it to 15k but I had to pee and no portopotties were set up yet and I was NOT peeing in the woods. I was close enough to home I headed there. Hope to run tomorrow too if the rain holds off. Happy Easter everyone!!

Run strong!!
Today I decided I didn’t want to run a long run with my run group so I headed out on my own to see how quickly I could run 5k. Wanted to see if I could pick up my pace and be strong. Wow I amazed myself, I felt faster that I usually run and felt pretty strong though the trail. When I finished I checked my Nike+ band and I did the 5k in 32:39………..OMG Last year my very first ever 5k was 37 minutes and my last 5k in October was just over 34minutes and all involved some walking. I AM A RUNNER woohoo!!!! It is great to feel that sense of accomplishment and feel like this training is working. I am no speed demon by any stretch but seeing how much I have improved in a year feels amazing! So what are you doing out there….get out and RUN!!!!
Really?!?!?
G’day out there, I have had a rough couple of days friend wise. It’s been wearing on me and I haven’t been eating much. I was off today and running around as usual and mentally a big fat mess…
Headed out with my running group and glad that I did. Although I felt like crap I managed 10 k in 1:11 which is pretty good time for me. Ended my run night with a great conversation with one of my Twitter buddies. He’s a very positive and encouraging influence on me and my running. Looking forward to getting to know him better. Home reflecting on a few things….tomorrow is a another day!!!
